Scholarship Opportunities

Part of riding a bike sees us cycling through consumables like tires and chains. This inherent upkeep cost can be a barrier for some to getting out and riding their bike. In recognition and response to this, we have developed a scholarship program. This program was originally made possible through a grant awarded by The Female Athlete Network (F.A.N.) in 2021. It continues to be funded today by Fort Follies sponsors Rio Grande Restaurant, the Women’s Clinic of Northern Colorado, The Fort Collins Dentist, and Jennifer Kelly, Keller Williams Realty.

Recipients of the scholarship will receive:

  • waived fees to join or renew

  • up to $100 in consumables, to be ordered through our bike shop sponsor, throughout the year as needed. Consumables that qualify are tires, tubes, chains, lube, helmets, etc.

  • team jersey at no cost (Additional team kit items will need to be purchased by the recipient; however, owning a full team kit is not a requirement for participating with the team.)

REQUIREMENTS

In order to qualify you have to make under $45k per year and have a need. At no time will we ask you to prove your financial need. This program will be on the honor system, please only apply if you qualify and have a financial need.

Once approved, recipients are expected to participate in at least 5 team activities (virtual rides/races, webinars, social media posts, etc.) to be defined by recipient, as well as volunteer for the Fort Follies for 5 hours total throughout 2024 through activities like leading rides or helping to organize social events.

We can offer this opportunity to up to 10 people, including those that are new to the team. It is our hope to not only help each other, but to also attract new team members with this program.

APPLICATION

In order to apply, fill the form on the bottom of the page. We will reach out to all that have applied by mid February to let them know if they have been accepted.

Once the application period has ended, and scholarships are awarded we will let the team know if there are any funds left over. These funds will be available for mid year applications in the case that someone's financial situation changes.

In the interest of privacy, leadership will not disclose the recipients to the team or to the public. While there is no shame in not having as much as someone else, we feel that It is up to the discretion of each recipient to decide if they want people to know about their participation in the scholarship program.

If the number of applications exceeds 10 then a small committee will be formed to decide on recipients. This committee will include the 2 people who developed this program, and 2 additional members of leadership.

The F.A.N. is dedicated to creating opportunities for girls and women to participate in sports, and encouraging and supporting their lifetime appreciation of and participation in athletics.
