Zeinab’s Journey:1st Afghan Woman To Do Ironman 2022

A Fulbright Scholar at CSU, Zeinab is a Fort Follies scholarship recipient that joined the team for the 2022 season. She is the first Afghan woman triathlete who has completed an Ironman 70.3 race, the Ironman 70.3 Dubai in 2019. Her journey from Afghanistan to the US on August 16, 2021, just one day after the Taliban takeover, is featured in a 30 minute long documentary that is a collaboration between the North Face and Free To Run. Find out more about her amazing story here: https://www.thenorthface.co.uk/exploration/our-journal/free-to-run.html

The Fort Follies will be hosting a mini-screening of the film and a Q & A session with Zeinab in Fort Collins at Wolverine Farm Publick House on Thursday, August 18th from 7:00PM - 9:00PM. Access the Facebook event details here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1242323866566272/

Currently, she is training to compete in the 2022 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Saint George, Utah to represent her country and the women of her country. She is taking on the challenge to raise funds and awareness about the oppressions against women in her country. The Taliban has banned women and girls from their basic rights such as education, playing sports, traveling alone and working.
